Hey chuck so the winter restoration part two started on the 59 Impala after Revision Auto rebuilt the entire front end transmission and drive train along with installing all new suspension and brake lines in the spring. The shop is located on Gude Drive in Rockville with my buddy Jimmy Figliozzi managing the crew and helping with the work. The pictures I sent show the seats out of the car and all the carpeting pulled out as well. the seats are being recovered with exact factory reproduction covers after getting new foam and liners. note all the seats were original including the padding and stuffing. Also worthy of noting is the excellent shape of the floors. Unfortunately the front seat was badly damaged and torn and could really not have been repaired which necessitated the back cover be replaced as well due to color fade and some damage as well due to age. When the carpeting was pulled out the rear carpeting was very worn and the padding underneath had seen better days so a new exact factory reproduction carpeting is being installed as well especially since the seats are out. After that note the gauge cluster with the clock was pulled out, a NOS clock was found and is being installed along with a NOS throttle holder and a NOS windshield washer with foot pump. Both accessories were offered with the sport coupe in 1959. Mechanically  NOS push rods and valve spring end cap bolts were installed on the right side due to a broken push rod being found as a result of metal fatigue. The newly installed clutch was readjusted for more toe play and a new fuel hose was installed at the fuel pump and again at the tip of the fuel line. A new hose clamp and hose was installed from the water pump to the manifold due to a small leak and the car was pressure tested. Once the interior is installed the car is going to the paint shop for a newly painted hood which had bad acid rain damage and other various paint repair, including a little rust bubble hiding under the trunk molding and resurfacing the inner water channel inside the trunk, the area under the trunk above the tailights will be repainted, a crack on the right side quarter panel will be fixed, then paint blending around the car will be done to repair minor chips and then the body will  be clear coated to fill in all the crows feat around the car which happens from age. The paint work will bring the car to a higher level of restoration without de-trimming the entire car and painting it.

The interior covers and carpet came from Ciadella Interiors and all the NOS parts came from eBay and Obsolete Chevrolet in Ohio. The interior components are superior in quality and very reasonably priced.

Jims shop is doing an excellent job especially with Jim back at work and supervising and using his vast knowledge of classic cars and restoration. He can be reached at 301-424-6577.
